Developers behind proposals for a wind farm in Shropshire are planning to challenge a decision by council chiefs to refuse the plans.
Representatives from Nuon Renewables, which has submitted a planning application for seven giant wind turbines at Bearstone, near Market Drayton, said they will appeal a decision by Newcastle-under-Lyme Borough Council (NULBC) to give the plans the red light.
The council was consulted because an access road into the wind farm lies across the Shropshire border in Staffordshire.
Councillors decided to refuse the application on the grounds it would have a negative impact on highway safety, character and visual amenity and an adverse impact on the landscape.
North Shropshire District Council will make a decision on the windfarm part of the application on September 3.
Today, Al Hanagan, for Nuon, said: “The resolution ran counter to the recommendation of the officers and the councillors’ grounds for refusal were rather unclear and did not appear to fit the facts. Once Nuon has been issued with the reasons for refusal, an appeal will be lodged.”
Campaign group Vortex (Veto on Rural Turbine Expansion) have campaigned against the proposed windfarm.
North Shropshire District Council’s planning meeting takes place on September 3 at the Grove School in Market Drayton from 7pm.

Well the people at Wixall dont object to Hunt Kennels everywhere but just think they should be somewhere other than Wixall.
And the people of Market Drayton want wind-farms but not by them.
As far as I can tell Wixall folk dont mind wind-farms and Market Drayton people have never been outspoken about Hunt kennels.

If only I was one of those over-paid pen pushers in the council, there would be none of this unecessary distress for all those quaint simple Salopians.

Windfarms only make sense where there’s wind! Put them out to sea or in the mountains away from people. 490m is far too close to the nearest house.
Not in mountains, I like to go walking in Snowdonia and swim in sea at Barmouth. But Scottish mountains and coast is ok, them Jocks wont mind, I mean they dont seem too bothered that their taxes are paying for 2012 Olympics with no benifit to them whatsoever. What would we do without them? Long live the Union!
lucy what worries me is that by 2012 the jocks could be independent and will benefit from our taxes. they already benefit from our taxes. are we not funding free prescriptions, free care for the elderly and no student loans. they are really enjoying life up there at our expense
