Brave volunteers walked on broken glass and hot coals at a Shropshire pub to help raise thousands of pounds for charity. The challenges were part of a day of events organised by the Newport Lions at the Lion Inn in Edgmond. Ray Marriot, organiser and Lion member, said last Monday that they estimated £6,000 to £7,000 had been raised, but a final figure had not yet been reached.
The event was raising money for Combat Stress, which has a centre in Newport, and other charities, including Cancer Research, the County Air Ambulance and Hope House Children’s Hospices.
