A Telford teenager has had part of his ear bitten off in a vicious attack.
Craig Rees, 19, was attacked during a brawl at the Black Horse Pub in King Street, Wellington, where he was on a night out with friends.
Mr Rees today said the attack - which has left him with a large portion of his right ear missing - had caused him “the worst pain” he had ever experienced.
He now faces reconstructive surgery to reshape his ear, but has pledged to take up his university place to study business management next month.
Mr Rees, of Leegomery, was in the pub with friends when a brawl broke out.
He said: “I got punched in the back of the head and the face and this guy lunged at my right ear and bit off a big chunk.”
Mr Rees was taken to Telford’s Princess Royal Hospital, and transferred to the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital for treatment.
He has now been discharged, but needs to have his dressings changed regularly. He will visit a specialist on August 28 to discuss surgery on his damaged ear.
Mr Rees said: “It is very painful. My hair is really short, so it will be obvious when the dressings come off.
“I have a place to start at Wolverhampton University’s Telford campus on September 14 and I am still going to take that up.”
Police are appealing for witnesses who saw a group of about 10 to 12 men, aged 17 to 19, in or around the pub at about 10.30pm on Saturday to contact them.
Constable Mark Weale said: “This was a particularly unpleasant incident.”
