Match-winner Paul Murray has hailed Shrewsbury Town’s first away success of 2008 - as the midfielder hopes for positive injury news.
Murray struck the 70th minute goal which secured Town’s 1-0 victory at Exeter on Saturday, their first win on the road since a 2-1 success at Accrington Stanley on December 22 last year.
But former Carlisle and Gretna man Murray was today due for a scan on a troublesome Achilles problem.
“I have been struggling with the Achilles and it was so sore before and after the game,” said the 31-year-old.
“It’s a big concern because I can’t do my job like I want to do it. I picked it up in pre-season and it’s just been continuous.
“It’s not really got any better so I’m off for a scan today.
“I don’t think I’ve done anything serious so hopefully we will get it sorted.
“I do all jobs in midfield - up and down, score goals and set them up so once I get this little niggle away, I should be fully up and running.”
Murray was delighted Shrewsbury maintained their perfect start to the League campaign with a gritty victory.
“It was a massive win,” he added. “We didn’t play very well or get to the grips with their formation well either.
“But teams that are going to be up at the top at the end of the season come to places like this and go away with three points without playing well - it happens in every League.
“It’s great for the team spirit and hopefully we can kick on from here.”
Manager Paul Simpson believes the victory sends out a message to Town’s League Two rivals.
“It’s a big result because we have played two League games and won them both and it makes people take a little look at it,” he said
“When you come to a place like Exeter and the scores come up on the television at 5pm, this is the sort of a result people look at,” he said.
“I don’t think many teams will come here and take all three points over the season, especially with the way they played with their spirit and the passing.
“But we matched them for attitude and work ethic. We didn’t play as well as we can but, at this moment in time, I’m not really bothered about that - it’s about getting three points,” added Simpson.
