The Buttermarket, Shrewsbury

Liberty X at the Buttermarket

Favoured by a more alternative crowd, The Buttermarket in Howard Street, just behind the railway station, is home to a lively calendar of sounds from techno to break-beat.

Housed in a vast historic building constructed in 1835, the club sits alongside the Shropshire Union Canal and was converted from a warehouse into the super-club it is today.

There’s a good mix of events, from regulars like Spektrum (drum and bass) and 2 Kilos of Funk, to guest acts like Electric Six, Maximo Park, The Futureheads and Liberty X (pictured above).

I went to the Buttermarket for the Beer festival on 6th September 2008 and thought the Club was a disgrace, dirty toilets, broken seating and just very, very grubby, what is going on there.
