Blowers breezes in for one-man show

Henry BlofeldA sports commentator dubbed the voice of cricket is hoping to wow Shropshire fans during a one-man show in Telford.

Henry Blofeld, who is affectionately known as Blowers, will appear at The Place, in Telford, on November 26 during an event entitled An Evening With Blowers.

He will regale the audience with tales of his life, including anecdotes about famous players and non-cricketing celebrities like Boris Johnson, Nigel Havers, Noel Coward and Ian Fleming, the James Bond author who based a villain on Blowers’s father.

Blowers said: “I’m very much looking forward to playing in Shropshire. But I do hope they sell a lot of tickets. I recently did a show in Northampton, for 900 people. It would be nice if they were able to get a similar number of people in at the show in Telford.”

Blowers said he had fond memories of the county and had previously visited the son of former colleague and world famous cricket commentator Brian Johnson.

He said: “Johnners’ son, Andrew, lives in Shropshire with his wife, Tilly, so I’ve stayed with them. I like Shropshire a lot. I have fond memories of it.”

Blowers added that his show would appeal to people of all ages, whether or not they enjoyed cricket.

He said: “It’s not a cricketing show. I’ll tell people all sorts of things. The show changes every night. It’s never scripted.”
