When Peggy, the three-legged dog, disappears from her home near Llangollen, owner Dilys Lloyd knows just where she can find her.
The Jack Russell is train mad - and invariably makes her way to the Llangollen Steam Railway’s station at Berwyn.
Peggy has become a familiar site on the railway. Despite her disability, the little dog walks six miles from the remote farmhouse where she lives, to the station, often following ramblers.
Staff at the railway phone Dilys to say: “Peggy’s here again”. Dilys then has to travel to Llangollen and wait at the station with a lead for the train to pull in. Peggy lost her leg when she ran out in front of a car as a pup. She is now eight but the fact that she only has three legs has never made a difference.
A spokesman for the Llangollen Railway Society said he was not surprised Peggy liked its trains, as the track has “breathtaking views”. The seven-and-a-half mile track runs from Llangollen to Carrog on the old Ruabon to Barmouth line. A £2.5 million extension to Corwen is planned.
