Teenagers killed in crash are named

Wednesday 6th August 2008, 1:50PM BST

The scene of the fatal accident. Two teenagers who died after a three-car crash on a Shropshire road were named by police today as Naim Anwar, 19, and Zeeshan Ahmed, 15. Both came from Craven Arms.

They had been travelling along the A49 near Wistanstow when the accident happened one mile north of Craven Arms.

Mr Anwar, who was driving a white Peugeot 306, was pronounced dead at the scene after the accident about 9.45pm on Monday.

Zeeshan Ahmed was taken to the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital by ambulance, where he died yesterday morning.

Another passenger, a young man, was transferred to the University Hospital of Coventry and Warwickshire where he remains in a critical condition.

Mr Anwar’s car was travelling southbound on the A49 when it was in collision with a red Jeep Cherokee and a white Vauxhall Vivaro van travelling in the opposite direction towards Shrewsbury.

A 53-year-old woman passenger in the Jeep was taken to hospital with a suspected broken wrist. The driver and van driver were uninjured.

An inquest on the two teenagers was due to be opened later today.

The accident left the road closed until about 1pm yesterday.

Paramedics had just happened upon the incident but two more ambulances were called to the scene. Fire crews from Craven Arms and Church Stretton also attended.

Anyone who saw the collision or any of the vehicles prior to the crash is urged to call police on 08457 444888.

Having grown up with both Naim and Zeeshan, too many memories make this really really hard for not just us as close relatives, but for their families. May they all have strength to get through this horrible horrible experience, and may everyone support them in everyway they can.

Two young lives lost too quickly.. they hadn’t even seen what they’re life could’ve been.

    May they rest in peace.

My thoughts go out to both families at this difficult time. A couple of years older than Naim, i remember him from school as a happy spirited teenager.

May both rest in peace and may their families stay strong.

I’ve read too many similar stories to this already this year, all involving young people, who will never have the chance to reach their full potential or enjoy life to the maximum.

Accidents happen every day, and are sometimes unavoidable, but maybe it’s time we looked at the way people can obtain their licence.

Perhaps a limited amount of lessons/hours before the test?
And I’m certain that elderly people should have to have further tests to make sure they are capable of driving. Factors such as illness, poor eyesight etc are bound to affect driving ability, and having to take only one test in your lifetime, and then to continue driving for 50, 60 or even 70 yrs is madness.

My heart goes out to the families of these young people, and I’m not accounting any blame in this particular accident, but we need to look at the bigger picture.

It’s too sad to see repeated stories of this type.

This is such a tragedy. Words cannot express the loss their friends felt and we cannot comprehend the grief their families face, our thoughts are with them. We pray that Naz makes a speedy recovery as another loss would be so unjust. Aleshia, Kyle and Kayleigh send their love.

    Rest in peace xx

My sincere sympathy go to the families of these two young men, cut off in their prime. Whatever the cause, may they rest in peace.

However, I must comment on Saire’s comment – not all accidents are caused by the elderly. Believe it or not the majority of us “oldies” are still “capable” of driving sensibly! You must think about the youngsters who drive like maniacs when the ink on their new licences are still wet! The thrill of speed in also a killer, so think on before generalising.
