A home and leisure superstore launched by one of the UK’s most successful entrepreneurs is set to open a new £1.5 million branch in Telford this month, creating 150 jobs.

The Range Home Leisure and Garden store will open its doors on August 22 in the former Focus store at Telford Shopping Centre.

The giant store will sell 65,000 home, leisure and garden products across 16 departments.

One of the fastest growing retail chains in the UK, the company has chosen to ignore the downturn in the economy and continue with a strategy focused on market expansion.

Seven new stores are set to open in the UK this year, bringing the total number of Range stores to 41.

Self-styled rags to riches owner Chris Dawson, recognised as one of the most successful entrepreneurs in the UK, said today Telford was an area that had always “been on our radar due to the fact that it is a town thriving with development opportunities”.

He added: “Our research shows that the people of Telford appreciate value for money.

“We have thousands of quality products at unbelievably low prices and with the current credit crunch I feel that it’s our duty to bring these products to the people of Shropshire.”

The company is investing £1.5 million into the store opening, transforming the site at Telford Shopping Centre.

Chris Jones, director of Telford Shopping Centre said: “We’re delighted to welcome The Range into the Centre. It’s terrific to be able to welcome a retail success story to the area and to announce the creation of so many jobs.”

Whilst this is great news for Telford and a warm welcome to the area, John you cannot deny the truth! The Star like any other media are reporting what is actually happening, record housing prices, spiralling household bill costs, grocery increases, fuel increases, the list goes on, but where are the wage increases to match these percentages? I don’t see the point in blaming the media for reporting this, the facts still remain, and remain they will for sometime yet! An economic downturn is just following an economic rise over the last 15 years, i guess this was inevitable, and maybe predictable?
