Wolves are hoping to offload transfer-listed defender Rob Edwards, pictured, to Championship rivals Blackpool - as Ian Harte said ‘no’ to a move to Molineux.Tangerines manager Simon Grayson is keen on a deal for former Thomas Telford pupil Edwards which could be worth between £250,000 to £275,000 to Wolves.
Grayson is waiting for chairman Karl Oyston to give the go-ahead to spend following the £200,000 arrival of midfielder David Vaughan from Real Sociedad yesterday - their 10th summer signing.
But Blackpool have some money to spend after the £250,000 departures of Wes Hoolihan to Norwich and, yesterday, the sale of Kaspar Gorkss to QPR.
Wolves have taken the unusual step of allowing Edwards permission to talk to Blackpool without having agreed a fee, in the hope of pushing through a deal.
Jay Bothroyd’s £300,000 move to Cardiff went through last night after he passed a medical yesterday, but not in time for the Bluebirds’ photocall.
Edwards, who briefly crossed paths with Grayson as players at Villa, appeared in yesterday’s official photoshoot at Molineux with transfer-listed players Darren Ward, Darren Potter and Stephen Elliott.
But left-back Harte wasn’t on the picture after rejecting the chance of a short-term contract at Molineux.
The 64-capped Republic of Ireland international had been offered what is believed to be a month-to-month deal with the incentive of something longer.
But the 30-year-old ex-Leeds and Sunderland man has turned down the chance following a three-week trial.
Edwards was named in a strong reserve side to visit Steve Bull’s Stafford Rangers.
Edwards is included along with Ward, Potter, Elliott and Denes Rosa for tonight’s friendly at Marston Road. Carl Ikeme, Mark Little, Mark Davies and Liam Hughes are also included.
Squad: Ikeme; Little, Malone, R Edwards, D Ward, Potter, Davies, Melbourne, Hughes, Elliott, Rosa, Davis, Woolley, Hemmings, Connolly, K Bennett.
