Walker tuned-in to strike ace Holt

Richard WalkerNew Shrewsbury Town striker Richard Walker believes he can form a deadly partnership with record signing Grant Holt.Walker - brought in on a season long loan from Bristol Rovers - and Holt have already shown glimpses of a telepathic understanding in their outings to date.

Against West Brom, Walker was instrumental in Holt’s two-goal haul, delivering the cross for his first and then crafting a defence-splitting ball out to Ben Davies in the build-up to the former Forest man’s second.

Then against Market Drayton in the Shropshire Senior Cup it was Walker’s nod down that allowed Holt to volley home from 15 yards.

And Walker believes that there is plenty more to come.

“We’ve had some decent performances together,” agreed the 30-year-old.

“The longer it goes, the more telepathic we can get. It’s something that we’re going to be working on to be ready for the start of the season and I’m sure it will improve.

“It’s a decent partnership and I’m pretty sure it will provide a lot of goals.

“I’m not one that’s going to be running in behind defenders. I prefer the ball into my feet, turn and then bring other players into the game then hopefully get into the box and finish them off.

“That’s pretty much the plan.”

Pre-season has gone about as well as it could have for Shrewsbury, so much so that most bookmakers have tipped them to finish as League Two champions.

“It does add a little bit of extra pressure,” admitted Walker. “With the squad we’ve got we should really be up there challenging.

“Things are looking good, there’s a togetherness about us and that can only be good for the start of the season.

“A good start and I’m pretty sure we’ll be right up there.”
