A Shropshire actress will be making her West End debut in The Sound of Music next month.

Rebecca Lucie, from Bridgnorth, takes on the role of Liesl, the eldest Von Trapp daughter, at the London Palladium from August 25. She has understudied the part for the last 12 months.

Rebecca, 25, will be starring alongside veteran British actor Simon MacCorkindale, most recently seen in the BBC’s hospital drama Casualty, who takes over as Captain Von Trapp.

Rebecca’s mother, Barbara Devey, of Bridgnorth, said: “All of the family are very proud of Rebecca and her achievements.”

It was officially confirmed yesterday that she would be playing the part of Liesl in the musical.

The former Bridgnorth Endowed School pupil trained at Mountview Academy of Theatre Arts in London, graduating in July 2006 with a BA (Hons) in Musical Theatre.

She is a former member of Bridgnorth Musical Theatre Company.

Before joining The Sound of Music Rebecca played Cinderella in pantomime for Paul Holman Associates and has also performed at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, with both the Bolshoi and La Scala ballet companies.

While at college, some of Rebecca’s roles included Maria in West Side Story, Kristine in A Chorus Line, Cordelia in King Lear and Susie in Abandonment.

Some of Rebecca’s other theatre includes a workshop production of Raindogs for Andrew MacBean. The Sound of Music is her West End debut.
