Wellington must wait to learn if pro Kadeer Ali can play in their clash at Cannock - after he injured his wrist playing for Gloucestershire.
The batsmen had to go to hospital for X-rays after being struck by a fierce delivery from Graham Napier at Chelmsford on Wednesday.
He returned to resume his innings yesterday morning - eventually being bowled for XX - but is far from certain to link up with his Wellington team-mates for tomorrow’s Birmingham League division one clash.
“It could definitely impact on his fitness this weekend,” Wellington spokesman Terry O’Connor admitted. “Just because he returned to resume his innings, it does not necessarily mean he will be made available.
“He should be in touch over the next 24 hours and we’ll find out then if he can play.”
Whatever the verdict with Kadeer, Wellington will still be strengthened by the return of Adam Byram and Kevin Malcolm.
And that will be a boost as they look to put more distance between themselves and the relegation zone.
“Over the next five or six weeks we will be playing a lot of the sides bunched around us,” added O’Connor. “The more occasions we come out on top the higher we’re going to be.”
“There’s still nine games to go and it’s not inconceivable that we could be promoted if we win five or six of them.”
Shrewsbury will definitely be without their contracted player this weekend, as Tom Allin has been ordered to rest by Warwickshire after playing in a four-day second XI match at Yorkshire, which was finishing today.
That means a call-up for Steve Barnard as the London Road side look to cement their place in the top two when they travel to fourth-placed Stratford-upon-Avon.
“We’ll be looking to get the majority of the points and, even though we know it will be tough, I back the lads” said skipper Ed Foster.
“We’ve been doing really well recently, though that’s no surprise to most people at the club because we know we’ve got a good team.”
Shifnal have a key game in the premier division as they travel to face West Bromwich Dartmouth, who are the only team below them in the table.
The Priorslee Road outfit have hit a real run of bad form in recent weeks and team manager Chris Cadman admits: “We’ve under-performed this season.
“We’ve got into a bit of a rut and lost some confidence, but we need to find the strength and character to turn it around.”
Pro Gary Putland is out, having suffered a re-occurance of a thigh strain injury, while Guy Home is unavailable.
Young Indian Udit Sharma is called up for his debut after impressing in the seconds, while Asif Sultan is recalled to the line-up.
