Season looks promising for Town

So Shrewsbury Town will be playing at The Prostar Stadium next season - but for me it will always be known as The Meadow, writes blogger James Pugh.

Fans have had to wait a long time before they knew where they’d be calling home this season, and its taken months of speculation, but finally the new stadium has its official name.

Don’t get me wrong, I am not criticising club bosses for choosing Prostar as the new name.

I understand that in terms of revenue and for the good of the club then it makes sense, but the Meadow is something that I will always associate with the club and its where their true home will always be.

Like anything new, it will take some getting used to. I don’t know a lot about Prostar, but as long as they keep putting money into the club then I will back them.

In a double announcement this week, Prostar will also be making our kits. Having seen them close up and speaking to the players, I have to say that they look very smart and will hopefully bring us some luck in the season. In the past we were playing in kits we couldn’t seem to win in.

Two games into pre-season and the signs for a successful season look promising. Although you can’t tell a lot from these games, some of the football I’ve seen so far, especially in the second half against West Brom, was fantastic! No long ball - just proper on-the-floor football, passing and moving and a finished product.

Another positive was the performances of the new signings.

Sheriff and Jackson look an excellent partnership in defence and its nice to see centre halves who are competent at bringing the ball out of defence rather than just ’hoofing’ it.

Murray looks a solid midfielder who will keep the ball well, while Holt and Walker look set to form a fantastic partnership.

Unlike last season, if we get lots of balls into the box we know there will be somebody on the end of them to score goals. Some people have questioned the amount of money we paid for Holt, but in my opinion he will be worth it.

We’ve got new players, a new kit, and our new stadium has been named - roll on the new season!

Whilst it does look promising, we all need to keep our feet on the ground and not get carried away. Last season is still very fresh in the memory.

We must all be confident, the players can do what we expect of them, but hard work and good football are so very important, Paul we are relying so heavily on you, we (hopefully) are all behind you pushing for good results.

First eleven looks good and gives reason to be optimistic. Our weakness will be depth of squad. How would we cope with injuries to key players? The ones that will come in are largely the same as last years team. Imagine if Holt breaks down again in mid season? Back to Symes, or Madjo to be a 20 goal a season target man? Maybe.
