Water resort to open soon

swimming-pool.jpgA multi-million pound leisure facility is set to open near Oswestry, bringing with it about 70 new jobs.

The Lion Quays Waterside Resort, off the A5 near Weston Rhyn, is due to open in September with log cabins and a lake adding to the successful hotel and restaurant.

The new development will have taken about 18 months to complete when it opens.

It will feature facilities owners say will be the first of their kind in the UK including a thermal suite with a sun meadow and a snow paradise - a quick chill room.

Proprietor Nick Dulson said: “In total when it is up and running there will be about 70 positions. We would hope to be open early September.”

He added: “I don’t think there is another facility similar to what we are doing - I don’t think anything in the country.

“A lot of places have large gyms or a large spa but don’t seem to put the two together.”

He added they have travelled around Europe carrying out research, drawing influences from some of the best leisure facilities in Germany, Spain and Ireland to build the prestigious development.

It includes a two-storey building with a reception area and club retail area on entering the building.

On the ground floor is a 25-metre swimming pool with marble effect pillars, along with poolside jacuzzi, sauna and steam room, changing facilities and a spa reception area.

The upper floor includes a thermal suite with a sun meadow - including an ultra violet room with the decor of a meadow, and a snow paradise - a quick chill room which they believe is the first of its kind in the UK.

There is also a spa lounge, 15 treatment rooms and a relaxation room opening to an outdoor area with hot tub, a VIP suite and hydrotherapy baths, the models of which are again a first for the UK.

Two aerobic studios, a 75-piece gym, restaurant and sports bar, and a roof terrace complete the top floor.

Outside will feature three tennis courts and a bowling green along with 19 luxury log cabins and a 150 metre lake.

The four-star hotel, alongside the Llangollen canal, is popular as a conference and wedding venue.
