Fearns causing big buzz at Bucks

Celebrations after a Terry Fearns goal.Chairman Lee Carter is backing new striker Terry Fearns to establish himself as a fans’ favourite after making an explosive start to his AFC Telford United career. The 30-year-old hitman has hit five goals in the first two friendlies - with two at Stratford and a hat-trick against Wellington Amateurs, both in 5-1 wins.

The opposition might have been limited, but chairman Carter already has a sense that the forward can make a real impact.

He is hoping that continues in the next two friendlies against Football League opposition, with Cheltenham the visitors tomorrow evening and Nottingham Forest on Wednesday.

“We’ve had two great work-outs so far, and we’ve got two totally different tasks in front of us now,” said Carter.

“It was nice to get a positive start to pre-season though, and you can already appreciate that some of the fans are starting to get a tingle about Mr Fearns.

“When he scored that third goal (against the Ams on Tuesday evening), you could hear not only the applause, but also a ripple of excitement. That was a sign to me that he is going to be a fans’ favourite - every club loves a No 9 and we are no different.”

Carter also reported that season ticket sales have been growing steadily, and he is now optimistic that they will top last season’s tally of 727 before the season gets under way with a trip to Stalybridge on August 9.

“We’ve just edged over the 650 mark and I’m confident we will beat last year’s total,” he declared.

“We’re now going to have a process of targeting those who have not renewed from last season yet.”

* Fans can still snap up a three-match ticket for the home friendles with Cheltenham, Nottingham Forest and Chester City, who visit on August 2. Adult prices are £12 for season ticket holders or £16 for others. Matchday entrance for each of the three games will be £8.
