Kashia AllenA woman was jailed for 11 years today for her part in the brutal killing of a man during a mugging. Kashia Allen, 23, acted as a driver for two men who murdered 42-year-old Andrew Owen. She was also given a concurrent nine-year jail term for her involvement in five other street robberies, including that of a Telford woman.

Law student Allen, of Crosby Close, Farndale, Wolverhampton, was found guilty of Mr Owen’s manslaughter at the city’s Crown Court in May.

Passing sentence at the same court today, Mr Justice Goldring said Allen had known violence would be used when she drove her boyfriend,Gabriel Bhengu, and his friend Jabu Mbowane, both South Africans, to the scene of Mr Owen’s murder in Sedgley, West Midlands.

The judge told Allen: “You were involved in these offences from the outset and I am sure that you were a full member of the team.

“I have no doubt that before the robberies were committed, there was discussion in which you were involved as to what in broad terms would happen.”

Bhengu and Mbowane, both of Whitmore Reans, Wolverhampton, were told at an earlier hearing that they must serve at least 30 years in prison for the murders of Mr Owen and that of Telford “gentle giant” Neil Williams, of Stirchley.

It was also recommended that Bhengu, 27, and Mbowane, 26, be deported after serving their sentences.

Mr Owen and Mr Williams, 41, were both killed in April last year by Bhengu and Mbowane, who had entered Britain legally but had overstayed their visas.

Both victims were walking home from a night out at their local pubs when they were violently grabbed around the neck and robbed of their belongings.
