A Shropshire MP today said he would be calling for a judicial review after a leaked report revealed the Government will rule against culling badgers to control TB in cattle.Shrewsbury MP Daniel Kawczynski, who is chairman of the All Party Group for Dairy Farmers, said he would fight to the end to protect farmers in his constituency.
The leaked report came ahead of next week’s planned announcement by Environment Secretary Hilary Benn.
Mr Kawczynski has also sent a letter to all MPs urging them to join him in a demonstration against the decision next week.
The protest outside Parliament is being lead by Andrew Bebb, from Shrewsbury, who will be joined by farmers from across Shropshire and the rest of the Midlands.
Defra’s decision goes against the recommendations of the former Chief Scientific Advisor, Sir David King.
Today Mr Kawczynski said he was incensed the news had come from the media before the Government. He said: “I have sat with a farmer in my constituency who has been brought to his knees by Bovine TB and I do not mind admitting that I cried when I heard what had happened.
“I will fight to the end to protect my farmers and feel so very angry about the socialists total disregard for our farming community.
“That is why we have no option but to go to the High Court to seek a judicial review over Government inaction.”

So once they have ternimated “healthy” Badgers, as not all will be infected, what next Deer, Rats, Rabbits, Mice, birds all are able to carry and pass on TB.
Science has proved there is no link between Bovine TB and Badgers.
The badger is a convenient scapegoat for farmers who fail to look after their animals properly.
Bodger believe if or not but you can tell which badgers are infected and only they will be dealt with. It wouldnt be up to individuals to go around killing these animals, you would need a government trained vet to verify before a cull could be utilised.
If a member of the public caught TB from a badger it would be a very different turn of events!
It just goes to show the ignorance on the GB public. It is alright spouting on about scientific reports etc but how many of the GB public are scientifically trained to understand the jargon it entails.
I find it VERY amusing that the Pro countryside/hunting lot have not tried to rope in Foxes need culling with the whole TB issue.
However I understand it cannot be much fun to hunt a badger, after all foxes run much more quicker
as a vegan i dont care about beef farmers I say save the badgers first as they are a priority species
“Bodger believe if or not but you can tell which badgers are infected and only they will be dealt with.”
Not so. The proposal was to kill every badger in an affected area.
The science proved, however, that it would probably make things worse, rather than better.
If a cull was to go ahead and a Government vet was required to verify that each badger did indeed have TB it would take years to carry out a cull. Therefore the conclusion of the report is correct.
i will never vote for anyone who votes to kill badgers based on old wives tales of farmers who just want the work (doing the killing) shame on them
..and what a surprise (not!) to learn than pro badger cull MP Daniel Kawczynski is also pro-hunt - what is it with these people and their lust for killing wildlife?
Farming is the most heavily subsidized industry in the UK and yet the farmers still wail and moan. The poor badger is just a scapegoat - a cover for their band husbandry skills and their complete lack of compassion for the wildlife whose environment they share. Put your hands in your pockets farmers and work with science to find a cure for bovine TB, before you lose public sympathy completely. Whom do you think buys the products of your mechanised labour? - the rural minority? - no!, the urban majority and we increasingly care about how our food has been produced!
Elle - it is a false truth that all farmers are heavily subsided by the UK, this I know to be true and I work within the industry.
Farmers would be quite happy to live hand in hand with any wildlife but when it affects your business then it needs to be dealt with in the correct manner.
If there was a cure for Bovine TB then of course it would be used in the agricultural industry far and wide.
John it will take years for a cull to have an impact any way with the millions of badgers that live within the UK. It will take the Welsh a very long period of time to complete their cull when they put it into action.
I dont see anyone protesting when there are reports on fox hunting or seal clubbing etc - hypocrits when all said and done.
