Murder bid case in court

A man is in custody after being charged with attempted murder. Peter Hewitt, 43, appeared at Telford Magistrates Court yesterday, charged with the attempted murder of Zoe Durie on Sunday in Wem.

Hewitt, of Lawnside Green in Bilston, is also charged with possessing an offensive weapon, namely a razor, on that date, and with assaulting Zoe Durie on June 24.

The case was adjourned for another hearing at Shrewsbury Crown Court on July 14. Hewitt was remanded in custody.

Hewitt was arrested on Sunday, and police applied for an extended detention to question him, until he was charged with attempted murder on Tuesday.

A West Mercia Police spokeswoman, said: “Police arrested a man in connection with an alleged incident on Sunday at a property in Wem. He was interviewed and has been charged with attempted murder.”

John Hawker, from the West Midlands Ambulance Service said: “We were called to an address in Wem at 2.17am on Sunday. We sent two ambulances and a rapid response vehicle. We took a woman to the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital.”

The injured woman is now said to be in a “comfortable” condition at the hospital.
