County hit by selection blow

It will be all change for Shropshire when they resume Minor Counties Championship battle with a home clash against Wiltshire at Bridgnorth this weekend.

A string of key players are unavailable for what has been described as a “must-win” western division clash after the disappointing defeat at Cornwall in the last outing.

Shifnal trio Jono Whitney, Anthony Parker and Adam Shimmons are not available, while Matt Tilt, a potential wicket-keeper stand-in for Parker, and his St Georges team-mate Steve Taylor are also ruled out.

Mark Robinson and Jonty Mountford have been left out of the squad after being recalled for the trip to Truro, while Jack Shantry returns and Rob and Ed Foster are both named in 11.

The intention is for Ed to keep wicket - but he will also be ruled out should he earn an extended contract in the First Class game with Leicestershire.Elsewhere there are recalls for Shrewsbury spinner James Gale and Laeq Rehman, brother of batsman Atiq.

Plans to name Richard Oliver in the squad have been shelved due to Wrekin College commitments.

Chairman of selectors Trevor Sheperd said: “It’s a must win and hopefully we can produce a gutsier performance than at Cornwall.”
