The Workhouse Ale has been specially produced for the Llanfyllin Workhouse Festival by Stonehouse Brewery, of Weston, near Oswestry.

It was due to be launched tonight, ahead of the festival, which starts tomorrow and raises money for Llanfyllin Workhouse, a new entertainment, education, arts and community enterprise being developed.

The ale will be sold for the first time ever over the festival weekend at Wonder Bar, a mobile, licensed festival bar.

Organisers say the beer is a fresh, hoppy, copper-coloured beer with citrus hints rounded off with Maris Otter maltiness.

Julia Phillips, from Llanfyllin Workhouse, said: The main reason behind producing Workhouse Ale is that for every pint sold over the festival weekend, £1 will go directly towards the regeneration of the Llanfyllin Workhouse building.

“We are aiming to sell at least 1,000 pints over the weekend and therefore generate an extra £1,000 for the Workhouse building.

“We hope to be able to sell the Workhouse Ale after the festival in local pubs and retail outlets.”
