‘Yobs wreaking havoc’ in area

Yobs have been wreaking havoc in a Telford parish - hurling abuse, intimidating residents and even spitting in the face of a four-year-old youngster, councillors have been told.Parish councillors have now called for anti-social behaviour orders to be imposed on the youths causing trouble in the Leegomery area.

At a meeting of Hadley and Leegomery Parish Council yesterday, members heard there had been a rise in the anti-social behaviour of young troublemakers in Carmarthen Green and Hurleybrook Way.

Sub-officer Ian Leigh, from Wellington fire station, said today Hurleybrook Way as well as Chockleys Meadow in Leegomery were also two of their busiest areas for call-outs to deliberate fires.

At yesterday’s council meeting, Councillor Ron Plenderleith urged the authority to give its full support to residents.

He said: “We need to show these youngsters we are not willing to put up with their behaviour any longer. They have been throwing stones at people, being verbally abusive towards residents and one had even spat in the face of a four-year-old child.”

Suggested measures included writing to the police in order to get anti-social behaviour orders imposed on troublemakers, and calling on the youth service to get involved.

No no no! Really…Hadley and beyond…you’ve made a silly mistake. You see its only your ‘perception’ of crime not ‘actual’ crime!
It tells you 2 articles up. And if your lucks out a very important policeman will come to see you to tell you so in broad daylight with a protective colleague or three and a photographer to capture it.

    As if Asbo’s work
Most kids think they are a joke
Its bad parenting and if the children are under the age of 16 the parents should be hit with big fines or put on reduced benfits.

also if its children over the age of 18

Then how about chain gains being introduced as they have in the USA

Put them in orange boiler suits chained up and get them to walk the streets of Telford picking up litter, cleaning up graffiti etc - They would not be so keen to re offend again.

It would be interesting see some true statistics about anti-social behaviour when youth clubs and other services were open, compared to now whe youth support is at its lowest in decades.

When the average spend on youth support is 17p per head, something is going to go pop, I really feel we are more heading towards a big bang.

An ASBO is just like a badge of honour to these numbskulls. Great idea about the chain gang, and if they don’t turn up for it then they put them in stocks on a Saturday afternoon, and let them be humiliated in front of everyone.

shame on all of you! all this talk of infringing the human rights of those ‘yobs’. when the eu is completely in charge then all these problems will be solved.

  8. Phil said:

Which is the point human rights say that even when yobs are misbehaving the most we can now do is give them a ASBo and say please behave in future.

or send them off on a adventure holiday to help them behave.

Can I suggest that residents attend the bi-monthly PACT meeting at the Leegomery Community Centre, which is held between the Police and local Leegomery and Hadley residents. The meetings are poorly attented as they are not advertised well at all, but the next meeting is at 7pm on Thursday 24th July, with the following meeting being held on Thursday 25th September.

In our experience, the Police and CSO’s are extremely helpful. They have already sucessfully sorted out various anti-social problems for residents in the area and are working on others raised - take everything that is said seriously and it is a great opportunity to get some serious one-to-one time with the Police.

I just hope the Shropshire Star prints this email as well as the unhelpful dribble they have already printed above.

    Thank you.
