Michael Kightly insists Aaron McLean could become a real Molineux cult hero if he signs for Wolves.Mclean rocked Peterborough yesterday when he slapped in a transfer request after refusing a new contract.
Posh insist they will accept nothing less than £5m for the 33-goal League Two top scorer - £3m up front and £2m on promotion.
But now Mclean’s desire to leave could test the London Road club’s resolve.
The player’s agent James Barrett claims ‘broken promises’ led to the transfer request, saying: “He was told the club would not stand in his way if a bigger club came in.”
Kightly, who played with Mclean at Blue Square Premier side Grays, believes his former team-mate would be a big hit with Wolves fans.
“He’s very hungry and wants to do well like me,” said the winger.
“The supporters would take to him and potentially, he’s a fans’ favourite if he does come because of the way he plays.
“He wears his heart on his sleeve and scores goals. It’s just whether his signing can be agreed.”
Kightly added: “First and foremost, he’s a very hard-working player who works his socks off all day long.”
