Shropshire archer Alison Williamson is just three-and-a-half weeks away from boarding the plane to China for her fifth Olympics.
Williamson, Church Stretton’s big medal chance at the Games, will spend the next couple of weeks training at Lilleshall National Sports Centre before flying out on July 27.
And as the veteran of the six-strong squad, Williamson knows that she has a vital role to play.
“If I can help the other members of the team in any way then I will be more than happy to do so,” she said.
“Hopefully they can learn from my experience.”
The 36-year-old will be looking to end a British 100 year gold medal drought in Beijing.
Williamson added: “You might think that winning that bronze medal in Athens four years ago was as good as it gets, but I am the kind of person who always sets myself new targets and fresh challenges.”
As a four-time Olympian, Williamson looked a likely candidate to carry the Union Jack into the stadium at the opening ceremony. But unfortunately the archery competition kicks off a day later, so she won’t be able to.
