Glimpse of summer for region

blue-sky.jpgShropshire and Mid Wales will finally get a brief glimpse of summer tomorrow when temperatures will rival some of the European hotspots.

But enjoy it while it lasts, as thunder storms will hit the region in the evening, with heavy downpours on Wednesday.

It follows a generally dull and damp summer so far, caused by a run of depressions sweeping across the country.

Shropshire Star weatherman John Warner said today’s cloudy skies would clear by this evening, with sunshine breaking through, followed by a clear night.

He said: “At least Shropshire should get a taste of summer tomorrow with temperatures up to 24C (75F) - something the county missed out on last week compared to the south east of England where it was warm and mostly sunny throughout.

“Thunder storms are likely in the evening and there will be more thunder and heavy downpours on Wednesday.

“We will see sunshine and scattered showers on Thursday and more thunder storms on Friday.”

Daytime temperatures would remain 20C (68F) or above, he added.

Sun-seekers are currently enjoying fine weather in most of Europe. France, which suffered from torrential storms earlier this month, is currently under a huge ridge of high pressure, keeping the weather sunny and dry in the south and east, with temperatures of at least 27C (80F).

The UK is still in the firing line for depressions blowing in from the south west, bringing moist but mild air from the Atlantic.
