Duck race called off

A fundraising duck race was called off amid fears that rising river levels were too dangerous for canoeists.

About 1,400 yellow plastic ducks were due to be launched from the Dale End section of the river, in Telford, yesterday for the fundraiser in aid of Coalbrookdale and Ironbridge School.

But just minutes before the event was due to begin it was postponed.

Now organisers have rearranged the event for this Sunday at 2pm and will be back on the Iron Bridge selling plastic ducks.
