Engineering contractor Dodd Group was celebrating today after being crowned Shropshire’s Company of the Year at the county’s business “Oscars”.
The Telford-based firm took the top prize at last night’s county business awards in front of an audience of more than 650 people at Telford International Centre.
Dodd Group was presented with the award by Shropshire County Council chairman Councillor Malcolm Pate and Telford & Wrekin leader Councillor Andrew Eade.
The company, which employs more than 700 staff, was honoured for its commitment to staff and great business record, with a strong order book for 2008 and beyond. Border Holdings, ProAuto Training and Protomold all picked up awards.
And the Ironbridge Gorge Museum Trust beat strong competition to pick up the coveted customer service award. It was also a good night for Shrewsbury Town, which pipped Telford United to the post in the Sport and Leisure category.
The winner of the Dragons’ Den-style Star Idea competition was also decided last night, with guests seeing a video report on the three finalists’ ideas before voting for which idea they thought should scoop the top prize of £5,000, plus priceless business support, to turn their dreams into reality.
The Olympic-themed evening saw guests dancing the night away as well as having the chance to try their luck on gaming tables in a casino area.
And guest speaker Roger Black inspired guests with an Olympic motivational speech.
