Turner’s ‘torture’ as Asa reined in

Jimmy TurnerAFC Telford United defender Jimmy Turner has suffered a setback in his fight to be fit for the start of pre-season training.

Turner, who was the club skipper for much of last season, had hoped to be fit within three weeks of a clean-up operation on his knee at the start of this month.

But there have been complications with his rehabilitation and that timetable has now had to be extended.

Assistant manager Larry Chambers is not too concerned, however, having been told by physio Rudy Farquharson that he should be fit by the middle of July.

“Jimmy had a slight reaction to his operation,” said Chambers. “His knee swelled up last week but I’ve spoken to Rudy and he’s not too worried.

“He said the fluid has been drained off it and he’s told him to rest for a week.

“We think he’ll miss the first training session, but it’s not a big problem and he should be okay for the start of the pre-season games (at Stratford on July 12).”

Meanwhile, fellow centre-back Asa Charlton has been told to slow down his training regime as he recuperates from a hernia operation.

“Asa was doing too much and he’s been told to slow it down,” Chambers revealed.

“Since we signed Gavin Cowan (another left-footed defender) he has felt a little bit under pressure, but I’m glad about that - competition is what we want.”
