About 550 ex-RAF servicemen and women took part in the biggest gathering of former National Service personnel in Shropshire.
The fifth annual reunion parade at the RAF Cosford Museum yesterday was part of National Service Day, organised by the National Service (Royal Air Force) Association to mark the contribution of those people who joined the RAF as part of their National Service.
About 3,000 spectators descended on Cosford, including veterans minister Derek Twigg and Air Commodore Neil Gammon, Commandant of Cosford, who took the salute.
But a planned fly-past by the Battle of Britain Memorial flight had to be cancelled due to high winds.
In a unique move, the parade was headed by Shropshire man Percy Woodhouse, 78, who was flanked by his son, Wing Commander Ian Woodhouse MBE, and his grandson, Flying Officer Paul Woodhouse.
Percy, of Claverley Drive, Stirchley, Telford, said: “I am terribly pleased with how it went despite the weather.
“We were marching into the wind at one point which made it hard going. It was great to be able to march with my son and grandson.”
