Shantry is missing for county

cricket-ball1.jpgShropshire will have to do without Jack Shantry when they continue their Minor Counties Championship campaign in Cornwall tomorrow.

Shantry will miss the three-day Western Division trip to Truro as he has been selected for Worcestershire seconds for the one-day game against Warwickshire on Tuesday.

The absence of the talented left-hander, who has made himself an integral part of the Shropshire line-up, has opened the door for a recall for Newport seamer Jonty Mountford.

Shantry is joined on the unavailable list by Shrewsbury team-mates Ed and Rob Foster and Shifnal’s Adam Shimmons.

But captain James Ralph is still delighted with the squad which will travel south this evening.

“I’m very happy with the team we are going with,” he said.

“We may be one seamer light from the ideal situation but with Mark Robinson in the team we have got two spinners which is always handy in three-day games.”

Shropshire will be desperate to carry the momentum from the eight wicket success over Herefordshire in the opening encounter as Ralph eyes a sustained challenge at the title.

“Cheshire, Devon and Berkshire always seem to find a way to win, whatever the circumstances, so that is something we have to do as well,” he added.

I think Shantry will be a huge miss. His all-round displays have been fantastic.

I also like his little beard.
