Shropshire’s Mark Lloyd hits Sky Sports tonight knowing that only victory will do against Andrew Lowe for the vacant Midland welterweight title.The Shifnal plumber desperately needs to bounce back from his first career defeat if he is to have a shot at the major British belts.
Victory at Wolverhampton Civic Centre would give Lloyd a third career title to add to earlier successes in the Midlands light-middleweight division and the British Masters International middleweight belt.
“If I’m going to be in there for the big belts then I need to win tonight,” Lloyd said.
“I’m feeling good, but a bit nervous knowing that it’s live on Sky. I’ve been on ITV before, but this is a different kettle of fish.”
The 32-year-old was out-pointed by Nottingham’s Adnan Amar in an English title contest last time and will have his work cut out against Newark’s Lowe.
The 28-year-old has put together a run of seven wins since losing on his debut.
He warmed up for the meeting with Lloyd by stopping Chris Brophy in the fourth round of a bout in front of his home fans last month.
Lloyd has weighed in at 10st 6lbs and trainer Errol Johnson believes his man is at full strength to finish the clash with a stoppage.
In the past Lloyd has rued not being able to take more time off work before fights, but this time his boss has let him finish early every day to allow for more training.
“It’s been great to spend more time down the gym,” he added.
“I know I’ve got to win. There will be 200 supporters there and all my family. I’ve got to do it, especially for my wife Charlotte - I’ve been really uptight lately!”
Telford middleweight Keiron Gray is also be on the undercard tonight for his second pro fight. The 30-year-old will meet Wakefield’s Tony Stones as he looks to build on his victory on his debut win against Lee Duncan.
Top of the bill is Wayne Elcock versus Darren McDermott for the British title.
