Moss rolls up for Father’s Day win

Thanks for everything - new County Merit champion Andy Moss with his parents Yvonne and Bob. Picture courtesy MIKE POTTER.Andy Moss gave county bowls selector Bob the perfect Father’s Day gift by winning the Shropshire Star Merit for a second time. The Chester Road No 1 added to his 1999 triumph by beating Sir John Bayley star Spencer Clarke 21-13 in a sunshine final at Reman in Shrewsbury last night.

Moss lived up to his billing as 5-1 favourite at the start to join the elite band who have won the County Handicap and Merit in the same year.

And the 34-year-old’s success helped make up for losing in last year’s final as Peter Farmer (St Georges) made it three in a row.

The diary farmer from near Woore thanked everyone for making it such a special day, before paying special tribute to his parents.

“I’d like to thank mum and dad for supporting me over the years - and it hasn’t always been easy. Happy Father’s Day dad!” said a delighted Moss.
