Jobs created in town after refit

At least 20 jobs have been created at a Telford supermarket following a multi-million pound refit, bosses said today. Asda in Donnington Wood, has added an extra floor to its branch.

The store has already created 30 jobs through its revamp and now it needs extra staff after being forced to draft in workers from other stores.

Events organiser David Simmons said today: “We have decided we need some more staff. We are looking specifically at early morning starts from 6am, and 5pm to 10pm shifts.

“They are general vacancies across the store.”

He added: “We have recruited 30 or so staff through the refurbishment. What we have found now the store is finished is we need additional pairs of hands.

“We have called on other stores across the region and they have provided us with staff from Cannock, Wolverhampton, Shrewsbury, Telford town centre and Great Bridge.

“Now we realise we need to recruit additional people to take up the slack when they go back to their own stores.

“It’s a question of getting the right people in the right jobs at the right time. We are creating at least 20 jobs, possibly as many as 30.

“It’s good news for Donnington and the rest of Telford.”

The store’s refurbishment, which has included the mezzanine, will be officially launched on Monday.

Salvation Army stalwarts David and Nancy Lewis have been chosen by Asda as unsung heroes to help to declare the refit open and will be picked up from their Wrockwardine Wood home by a limousine.
