Drivers in Telford faced diversions today after contractors closed one of the busiest crossroads in the borough.
Waterloo Road in Ketley was shut today and will be closed again tomorrow due to roadworks. It is expected to be reopened by Monday morning.
Contractors Blackwell said the closure was needed to allow workers to dig the cuttings for the siting of permanent traffic lights on the crest of Holyhead Road.
Blackwell site office manager Adam Lane said it would be the third and final time the road would be closed.
The roadworks have already been blamed for a loss of trade at nearby businesses.
Damien Rawlinson, landlord of the Elephant and Castle pub, said his weekly turnover had been as low as £500 and owner of fish and chip shop Ketley Cod, Steve Loizou, said his trade had also slumped.
The work is linked to the English Partnership-backed Telford Millennium Community housing development nearby.
Blackwell says the resurfacing should be completed by Monday but temporary traffic lights will remain in place for two to three weeks until the permanent lights are in place.
