Shrewsbury Town’s hopes of signing former loan ranger Asa Hall appear to have been quashed - with the youngster rejecting his contract offer.
Hall made 15 appearances and scored three goals after joining on loan from then Premier League club Birmingham City in January.
Ex-boss Gary Peters was the man to bring him to the club, but new man at the helm Paul Simpson saw enough to make him an offer.
It had been expected that Hall would be unveiled last month alongside new signings Paul Murray and Stephen Hindmarch, but that didn’t materialise.
It is now thought League One side Walsall could be leading the chase for the 21-year-old playmaker.
“We seem to have hit a bit of a brick wall with Asa Hall,” said Simpson.
“I’ve been speaking to him and his advisors over the last few weeks but we’ve got to a point where it doesn’t look like Asa will be joining the club.
“He’s turned the contract down and at this moment in time he hasn’t signed a contract anywhere else.
“He believes he has a couple of clubs who are interested in him and it looks like he will be leaving us.
“That’s part of life and there’s no point in worrying about it as there are many other central midfield players out there.
“The top and bottom of it is that he’s still a young lad who has played only a handful of games.
“He’s still learning the game and trying to progress and I thought Shrewsbury Town would have been a good place for him to progress.”
Meanwhile, fans who have already paid for their season tickets can now collect their booklets from the club during normal office hours, or have them sent by recorded delivery for a charge of £4.
Club staff are delighted by the surge in sales this week, with more than 1,100 season tickets now having been snapped up.
They are expecting supporters to keep coming at a brisk pace ahead of the June 14 deadline for purchase at ‘early bird’ prices.
Fans buying ahead of that date will in effect be getting almost eight free games.
