County fall in shootout

Shropshire lost out on penalty flicks as their first ever appearance in the finals of the county hockey championships ended in a semi-final defeat to Yorkshire.

Goals from Alex Johnson and Mark Siddorn saw Shropshire twice come from behind to draw 2-2 at Old Loughtonians yesterday.

But they fell in the shoot-out with Telford & Wrekin’s Dave Tracey the unlucky man to see his effort saved.

Cheshire won the final 2-1 after beating Sussex 4-0 in the other semi.

“We certainly held our own and the players can be very proud,” said manager Dave Siddorn. “We had good support down there too - more than the other teams.”
