Shropshire could be set for a tourism boost and 15 new jobs after councillors rejected planning officers’ advice and supported a scheme to build a log cabin resort near Ellesmere.
Businessman Paul Clifford submitted new plans to build 12 holiday cabins and three disabled lodges at Sodyllt Bank Farm, as well as a launderette and car parking.
The original proposal to build 14 log cabins was rejected by North Shropshire planners in December because of the size and “unsustainable” location of the development.
But Mr Clifford returned with a revised scheme yesterday when councillors gave permission.
Between 12 and 15 jobs would be created for up to two years, and then two full time and four part time jobs.
Councillor Marilyn Patrick said: “We have a great deal difficulty in north Shropshire keeping tourists here and this is the kind of thing that could do that.”
