Joe Hart and David James in training before the match.Former Shrewsbury Town goalkeeper Joe Hart had to watch from the bench as an unused substitute as England beat the USA 2-0 at Wembley.

The Manchester City keeper had been tipped to make footballing history by becoming England’s youngest goalkeeper for more than 50 years in the home friendly.

But manager Fabio Capello stuck with David James in goal, meaning Shrewsbury Town will have to wait further for a windfall payment from Manchester City when Hart gets his first full international cap.

Last night’s goals came from John Terry and Steven Gerrard.
