Owner’s delight at shop accolade

A Shropshire bookshop has been named as one of the Independent’s top 50 bookshops in the country.

Wenlock Books in Much Wenlock, featured in the Independent’s top 50 bookshops in its weekend supplement.

Owner Anna Dreda said she was delighted the shop, which won the Independent Bookseller of the Year - United Kingdom - in 2006 - had been chosen.

She said: “There’s nothing gimmicky about what we do here.

“The business has grown organically as we concentrate on what we do best; selling top quality books, running reading groups and events, and enjoying our customers.”

The article described the bookshop as a 15th century listed building that is a favourite of browsers nationwide.

The shop is also celebrating 21 years of independent bookselling.

It was founded in 1987 by Perce Muscutt, and Mrs Dreda began working with him in 1991.
