Pub offering soldiers’ discount

The Sun Inn, at ClunThe landlords of a Shropshire pub are offering an Armed Forces discount - but want a symbol to show their support. The Sun Inn, at Clun, is offering the discount to show its support for the British military, but wants to find a symbol to display with their message.

Fiona and Graham Didlick are offering a 10 per cent discount on food and accommodation for all serving members of Her Majesty’s forces and South Atlantic Medal Association members.

But the couple want to find a symbol to put in the pub window that will be nationally recognised and advertise their support for the nations’ Armed Forces.

Mrs Didlick said: “In America, you can get an official window sticker to show your business offers a discount, but there is nothing like that here.

“It’s a great idea to have an Armed Forces day to support our troops. Businesses like ours are willing to get behind the effort, but how do we tell everyone?”

Mr Didlick said they had asked South Shropshire District Council and Ludlow MP Philip Dunne to see if they could find out if any sort of symbol was available or push the Government to create one.

“We have a lot of relations who are in the Forces and we have also asked them and they aren’t aware of anything,” he said.

“The Government doesn’t do enough to support our soldiers, so we want to do what we can.

“If anyone knows of a national symbol we can use we would ask them to contact us.”

The pub can be contacted on (01588) 640559.
