Shrewsbury Flower Show will be going head to head with some of the country’s biggest events in a national competition next month.
Shropshire’s biggest show, which takes place in August each year, has been shortlisted for the 2008 Group Travel Awards, which are organised by Group Travel Organiser magazine.
Flower show officials today said they were delighted to be in the running against the likes of Royal Ascot and the BBC Good Food Show.
The flower show is up against tough competition in the awards, which will be announced at the Radisson SHS Hotel in London next month.
Other finalists in the group include the Birmingham Tattoo, Edinburgh Military Tattoo, Holiday on Ice and John Rutter’s Christmas celebrations at the Royal Albert Hall in London.
Harry Wilson, chairman of Shropshire Horticultural Society which organises the show, welcomed the news and said Shrewsbury was up for the challenge.
He said: “We are delighted to have been included in the list.
“This is a firm indication of the high standing of the show among group travel organisers.
“We have always placed great emphasis on assisting coach-borne and other groups to attend the show,” he added.
