Skip table is sold for £40,000

A small table rescued from a Mid Wales skip fetched £40,000 when it went up for auction in Shrewsbury today.

The remarkable story of the rare walnut table, made by famous English architect-designer Edward William Godwin, was revealed after it was identified by Jeremy Lamond, fine art director of Shrewsbury-based auction house Halls.

The family had initially consigned the unwanted table to a skip but then they had second thoughts.

The discovery was made during a routine visit to a village house in the Welshpool area in March.
