Accrington Stanley are interested in securing the permanent signing of Shrewsbury Town defender Darran Kempson - but not for a fee.Eric Whalley, chairman of the Lancashire club, has revealed Stanley would be keen on luring Kempson to the Fraser Eagle Stadium on a full-time basis after the 23-year-old impressed in a five week loan spell towards the end of the season.
But Accrington have also claimed that Town are seeking a fee should any transfer go ahead - and that would deter them from firming up their interest.
Stanley manager John Coleman is understood to be seeking two central defenders during the close season and has already moved for Colin Murdock, who was released from Oteley Road at the end of the season.
Whalley said: “We are interested in Darran but he is under contract and they (Shrewsbury) want a fee and we won’t pay - that is out of the question.”
Shrewsbury managing director Rob Bickerton today insisted he had not been in contact with Whalley.
“I think at this stage we are looking at all of our options on every issue and there is no need to rush into things,” said Bickerton.
“I can’t comment on that one specifically because I haven’t spoken with Eric. With that particular player there has been interest from a number of clubs.”
Kempson - who still has a year to run on his contract - joined Town from Crewe last summer, but has failed to hold down a regular place.
Manager Gary Peters agreed to farm him out at the start of March, although the defender returned to Shrewsbury for the climax of the season after Graeme Lee sustained a serious facial injury and subsequently returned to Doncaster.
It is unclear whether boss Paul Simpson would be prepared to dispense with Kempson as he attempts to re-shape his squad.

let him go for nothing.
and try get him trials with a rugby team, he seems to like hoofing the ball out for a throwing and never gets his head on anything so let him go
Be good if we could get a fee for him …
but whats to say he wont come good??
may also be easier to release him, and save on his wages
Loan him again or let him go for a nominal fee if others are prepared to bid. If Accrington wont pay they don’t get the player - simple !
it is simple economics, if they wont pay up, loan him elsewhere or sell him . we are not having micky mouse clubs telling us they are not paying
hu do u think we r if u think he is rubbish let us have him but from wot i saw on the terreces i thought he was a gud strong central defender and was more commited 2 us than shewsbury u think ur not welsh but u r
