Wem go clear as season hots up

Wem USC pulled further clear at the top of the Furrows Shropshire Premier Bowls League on a night of three away wins and two crackingly close games. The Services Boys are a stunning 12 points ahead after their 12-2 triumph at Donnington Wood.

Meole Brace were 25 chalks to the good as they won 9-5 away to former leaders Archibald Worthington, but it was much closer for Ford who had only 11 shots to spare despite eight winners at bottom club Childs Ercall.

Closest game last night saw Ifton edge out title favourites Castlefields by three chalks, the visitors winning seven games.

But Chester Road went mighty close at St Georges - with just three winners.

From 8-0 down, an Andy Moss-inspired push took them to just 10 shots off an astounding away win.

Wrockwardine Wood are joint second with the Roaders after seeing off Sir John Bayley 11-3 and Newport had a comfortable 10-4 home win over on-song Bylet.
