Drivers to face repairs on A458

road-closed.jpgMajor works to restore and make safe the rock face on a main Shropshire road could be bought forward - but no official start date has been released.

Harley Bank on the A458 near Much Wenlock will be shut for up to six weeks in the summer while work is carried out to make the bank safe following concerns about rocks falling on to the road.

The tendering process for firms bidding for the contract finished last week, but officials at Shropshire County Council say no contract has been awarded yet.

A council spokesman said: “We are expecting to award a contract within the next week.

“We have yet to decide on an exact start date as we want to ensure that the work is carried out at a time which suits the majority of local people and businesses.

“We’re possibly looking at the end of June, this way work will be sooner. It will still go into the summer holidays, but won’t take up all of the break.”
