Gary not up for mayor

The deputy mayor of Telford & Wrekin Council will not be standing for mayor due to ill health, he said today.

Councillor Gary Davies, borough and Wellington town councillor, went back into hospital today where he was expecting to undergo further surgery.

He had a knee replacement four weeks ago but has since suffered complications.

He made the decision on advice from his doctor.

Mr Davies said: “I am sure people will understand the reason why I have chosen not to stand for mayor.”
