Tara sheds nine stone for walk

Tara Devey is ready for the Moonwalk.

A Shropshire woman has shed 9st in preparation for taking part in a charity event in memory of her mum.

Tara Devey, 29, from Broseley, who lost her mum, Kathleen, to cancer four years ago, has dropped from a size 28 to a size 12 in the last year.

She will now take part in Saturday’s Moonwalk in London - walking the distance of a marathon, more than 26 miles - in memory of her 57-year-old mum who died from breast cancer.

Miss Devey, a business travel consultant at Co-op Travel Management, Central Park, Telford, said: “When my mum died I was very overweight but I’ve lost 9st in the last year and have become very fitness conscious.

“I’ve gone from a size 28 to a size 12 and I feel great. My mum would be so proud.

“I wanted to do something that’s a real challenge which I thought a marathon would be. I’m hoping to raise more than £1,000.”

Miss Devey, who joined Slimming World in January last year, said she is doing the Moonwalk in a specially decorated “fluffy” bra on her own, but will be met at the end by Lee McAllister, her boyfriend of five years.

Her training route has seen her pound the streets from Broseley to Buildwas and Much Wenlock and back up to Broseley, covering 14 miles. Miss Devey said: “Lee and I were together before I lost the weight and he is just really proud of what I’ve done.

“My mum was a big believer in Slimming World and I never really listened to her when she was alive.

“Lee would never say anything otherwise, but he said he was worried about my health so that spurred me to do something about it.

“I now go to the gym five times a week and it’s just part of my life.”

Her intense training has seen her reach 15-minute miles which she said is a “good power walk”.

She hopes to complete the marathon distance in up to seven hours.

Well done Tara, your Mum would be so proud of you, keep up the good work, both your exercising and helping those who need your valuable sponsorship.
Remember it was you who did it no one else.

Congratulations Tara I know how hard it can be to lose a little weight and you have lost lots. You look amazing and I bet you feel alot better too, you did not just do this for you but for a good cause and your mom, who I know would be very proud of your achievement. Keep it up and you will reap the rewards and satisfactions of helping others. It takes a special kind of person to help others and you are one of them. Good Luck in the future

No idea who you are but those pictures are amazing. Well done ~ your partner must be chuffed to bits taking you out now because you look stunning. What a fabulous tribute to your mum’s belief in diet and exercise. Good luck on the walk.
