Hundreds of extra visitors from all over the UK are expected to head for the Powys/Shropshire border this summer to take part in a festival centred on the Montgomery Canal.
The summer-long event will be launched at the Llanymynech Canal Wharf Visitor Centre on June 17 at 2pm.
The centre will be alive with people enjoying the annual Discovery Day, which begins at midday, and a Victorian carnival atmosphere is promised for the festival launch.
There will also be narrowboat trips throughout the afternoon.
Festival spokesman Alan Wilding said a trumpet fanfare would herald the start of the festival - Monty 08 - that is being organised by all the groups involved in the on-going canal restoration.
He said: “Monty 08 culminates with two busy weekends - one in Welshpool at the end of August, and one in Maesbury at the beginning of September, as well as a designated week at Llanymynech between the two weekends. Other annual and special waterway events in the preceding weeks have also adopted the festival umbrella under the Monty 08 logo.”
