Shifnal add second cup to the cabinet

Matt Flanagan’s Shifnal United added the leagues Premier division cup to their cabinet along side the Shropshire Challenge cup after beating Telford Juniors 2-1 in the final at Bridgnorth Town, writes Mark McIntyre.

Chris Henry opened the scoring for Shifnal to celebrate his 43rd league and cup goal of the season early on in the second half.

Lee McDonald ensured another cup victory for the club when he doubled the lead five minutes from time. Jason Walters pulled a goal back for Telford with virtually the last kick of the game.

In the Premier division, Wem Town, unbeaten in three games came from behind to win 7-1 away at Church Stretton Town.

Micky Duppa had given the home side an early lead only to see it cancelled out by Dan Woodall for the visitors. Wem totally dominated the second half with six of the best with Luke Woolam and Stefan Holiday both finding the net net twice in the second half rout.

John Hughes a Charlie Fotheringham brace provided the goals for Hopesgate United as they beat Broseley Juniors 3-1 at Snailbeach, with Shannon Welsh replying for the visitors.This victory, Gates seventh win of the season has condemned Church Stretton to the basement position with Hopesgate now exchanging league positions.

Ludlow Town Reserves finished the season unbeaten for four games thanks to a 4-1 home win over Morda United at the SBS Stadium.

Gareth Hamner and Danny Crowther set up a two goal advantage at half time with second half strikes from Adam Bowen and Andy Walker as Ludlow finish their first season in the county, a respectable 12th. Paul Hughes got Morda’s consolation goal.

In division one, Whitchurch Alport reserves ended their season on a high by beating Dawley Wanderers by the odd goal in five thanks to a double strike from George Haller and Rob Morris who took his goals tally to 22 for the season. Andy Jones and Kevin Williams replied for visitors Dawley Wanderers.

l The Ron Jones Cup final between Shifnal United and Telford Juniors is at Crown Meadow, Bridgnorth, tomorrow (7.30pm). Entrance is £2 for adults and £1 for under-16s.
