The mother of a Shropshire man who was killed in a car crash in Spain today paid tribute to her “loving son”.
Nicholas John Gretton, 30, of Bridgnorth, was killed in an accident on Sunday at 3.35pm on the A-2 motorway near Castellol’, Barcelona.
Andy Bayliss-Kyte, of Telford, was also involved in the accident and is in hospital in Barcelona.
Mr Gretton was a keen member of Bridgnorth Angling Society. Today his mother Susan Gretton, also from Bridgnorth, said: “He lived for fishing. He was a very hard-working, happy-go-lucky person and he will be sadly missed by everyone. We are currently making arrangements, we don’t know yet whether we need to go over to Barcelona or not.
“He was in the accident with his friend Andy Bayliss-Kyte, they had gone on a fishing trip together.”
She added: “Nick was a loving son and was very fond of his brother who lives in Holland. We’re a very close-knit family.”Chairman of Bridgnorth Angling Society, Brian Preece, said: “Nick ran a junior section for a number of years. He’s been a member of Bridgnorth Angling Society since he was about 12.”
Malcolm Kelly, Shropshire Star angling correspondent, said Nick had always been a “very good angler” and was always “keen and fun-loving”.
Colin Bunn, who runs Catmaster Tours, said the men had been collected from the airport and were en route to their accommodation when the accident happened.
